Brunswick Community College Names Onya Gardner Head Coach of Women's Basketball

Brunswick Community College (BCC) is pleased to name Onya Gardner as Head Coach of the BCC Dolphins Women's Basketball Team.

A Brunswick County native and dedicated member of the BCC family for 18 years, Gardner brings a deep understanding of the College's mission and a longstanding commitment to student success. Since joining BCC in 2007, she has served in several leadership roles, including Administrative Assistant, Internal Auditor, Dean, and currently Associate Vice President of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

Gardner is no stranger to Dolphins Athletics. She served as Assistant Coach for the Women's Basketball Team from 2016 to 2019 and has continued to support the program as a Team Mentor since 2020.

"I am taking this on to help create opportunities for young women both on and off the court," Gardner said. "My vision for the team is to build a program that develops women of character who graduate, lead, serve, and compete with excellence and respect."

Her new role comes at an exciting time for Dolphins Women's Basketball. In 2026, the team completed a record-setting season, advancing to the Region Semifinals and continuing to build momentum for the future.

"Coach Gardner has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our students and our community throughout her career at BCC," said BCC Athletics Director Robbie Allen. "Her passion for mentorship, leadership, and student achievement makes her an outstanding choice to lead our women's basketball program."

As head coach, Gardner will focus on continuing the program's upward trajectory while fostering an environment that emphasizes academic achievement, personal growth, leadership, and competitive excellence.
