Time to Regroup and Make a Championship Run, Dolphins Drop Two on Road Trip to Mountains
For the first time this season the Brunswick CC Dolphins Men's Basketball team (23-5) is facing a different kind of adversity after dropping two straight games on a tough weekend road trip. After previously defeating both Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute and Gaston College at home the Dolphins fell to both teams in a challenging Saturday-Sunday back to back. Saturday's matchup with Caldwell was a high scoring battle from the start. The teams traded runs throughout the first half with Brunswick trailing just 41–38 at the break. However the Cobras erupted for 59 second-half points pulling away late to secure a 100–90 victory. Sunday brought a similar script against Gaston. With the home crowd energized on Sophomore Day, the contest was once again tightly contested early. The Dolphins trailed by just one at halftime, 45–44, in what felt like a carbon copy of the night before. However for the second straight game, the host team exploded for 59 second-half points, as Gaston claimed a 104–89 win. For a team that has shown consistency, toughness, and the ability to close games all year, this weekend fell short of their standard. Defensive lapses particularly in the second half proved costly and allowed momentum to shift at key moments. Despite the setback the Dolphins look to regroup quickly. Brunswick has two home games this week to close regular season play. On Wednesday they will host Wake Technical Community College at 6 pm and on Sunday the 8th they will host Denmark Technical College for Sophomore Day.
